LOCAL AREAS AS A BRAND
-STARTING WITH JO-ETSU
As our first interaction, we would like to introduce you Jo-Etsu. In the south-west of Niigata Prefecture, Japan, lies an area called the Jo-etsu region. The region is famous for creating high standard crafts amongst all the different culture and traditional arts that Japan has.
They are famous for Toreutics (metalworking), Tsumugi (pongee), Kasuri (patterned fabric), Butsudan (a Japanese shrine) and many more. One of Japan’s ancient pottery, from the Jomon-Era, called the Kaen style potteries have been discovered in this area.
Why is the area famous for variety of art and culture?
It is said that the nature, the geographical location and its history has contributed to producing so many famous art pieces. Through their art and culture, you might be able to closely observe a trace of their characteristics and diversity.
Just like above, we are aiming to introduce the best of Japan’s local areas.
